GUILLEN PINARGOTE, Angélica Victoria; SUASTI LOPEZ, Claudia Alexandra; AUCANCELA BRAVO, Joan Manuel  and  VASQUEZ OBANDO, Fabricio Javier. Emotional intelligence and academic performance in online learning. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.6, pp. 469-478.  Epub Dec 10, 2023. ISSN 2218-3620.

This article focuses on analyzing the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance in university students in online programs. A non-experimental quantitative methodology was used with 166 students from the Initial Education and Economics programs at the Universidad Técnica de Manabí. Data were collected through surveys in the Google Forms tool and processed using SPSS V.26 software, including Spearman's correlation test. The results highlight a positive and statistically significant correlation between emotional intelligence and academic performance. This supports the relevance of emotional intelligence in the context of online education and underlines the importance of developing emotional skills to help students face academic challenges and achieve success in their studies. It is highlighted that, in the online modality, emotional intelligence plays a significant role, suggesting that emotional intelligence should be fostered so that academic performance can be improved. In that sense, this research contributes to understanding the importance of emotional intelligence in academic achievement and emphasizes the need to cultivate these emotional skills for success in online education.
