Abstract

MARANON SAENZ, David Mauricio  and  LOPEZ PEREZ, Sócrates. Young people building the future: challenges and solutions for youth employability in Mexico. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.15, n.6, pp. 643-650.  Epub Dec 10, 2023. ISSN 2218-3620.

Over time, youth employability has gained prominence in public agendas as its effects are not limited to economic considerations, but also affect the social, individual and collective. In Mexico, the "Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro" program has become the main government strategy for this difficult task. This paper seeks to contribute to the definition of the challenges and solutions that must be implemented in order to improve its results. First, we identify the bases under which the program operates; we review the results obtained in the first three years since its implementation; then, we describe the sociodemographic characteristics of its target population. We identify the need for a regional approach to the program, orienting and focusing the training of its beneficiaries towards labor market trends and the design of strategies that prioritize the participation of vulnerable groups in order to build a more efficient public policy.
