Abstract

OLIVER ESPINOZA, Rubén-  and  GOMEZ VIQUEZ, Hortensia-. Innovation in Latin America: characterization based on the global innovation index. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.2, pp. 52-64.  Epub Apr 30, 2024. ISSN 2218-3620.

The work aims to explore and describe, from an innovation point of view, the countries of Latin America. To do this, we refer to the input and output indicators of the Global Innovation Index. We apply principal components analysis to these to refine the most relevant indicators. It is observed that four subsets of countries could be formed; highlighted that, among the countries for which research and development activities are an important input (which are also the largest economies in the region), information technologies are activities to a much lesser extent, and vice versa. Likewise, countries that see information technologies as an important input also see relevant online creativity.

Keywords : Economy; Global Innovation Index and Input.
