Abstract

Performance of scientfic process supported by research groups is relevant for higher education. The purpose of the article is to identify theoretical references that sustains the organization of research groups. A descriptive bibliographic review was carried out in which documents from different databases were analyzed; historical-logical, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive research methods were applied. The were identified key precepts like conceptualization of research groups, particulars of their organizational structure, their articulation with science and innovation systems and relationship with topics such as knowledge management, production, visibility, collaboration and intellectual capital development. The need to improve the organization of research groups in medical education, based on these references, can contribute to the improvement of the science and innovation system in Health, supported by theoretical and methodological instruments that facilitate management and consolidation of these groups.
