Abstract

TREJO VIVANCO, Víctor Olid; CACERES MESA, Maritza Librada  and  TERAN TREVINO, Sergio Antonio. Changes in educational policy in Mexico: within the framework of the New Mexican School. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2025, vol.17, n.3  Epub June 30, 2025. ISSN 2218-3620.

The debate surrounding educational policy in Mexico has gained significance with the implementation of the New Mexican School (NEM), which modifies the basic education curriculum and offers a new perspective on the educational system. This analysis focuses on public policies, distinguishing between state and government policies, and emphasizes the importance of legality and legitimacy in education as a state policy. It reviews the historical evolution of educational models and their transformation, which helps to understand the implementation process of the NEM. This new proposal aims to promote inclusion, quality, and equity by adapting the curriculum to the needs of current and future communities, equipping students with skills to face everyday challenges. It is suggested that an evaluation of the NEM design be conducted after the 2024-2025 school year, involving all educational stakeholders to analyze its scope and limitations. Additionally, a qualitative evaluation is proposed to gather experiences from schools, identifying similarities, differences, and challenges of the model, in order to highlight the impacts of the educational paradigm shift.
