JORGE-RODRIGUEZ, Nelly Lidia; ROMERO-PAEZ, Jorge Marcelo; PROFETA-LO MENZO, Mariela  e  MONICA BEATRIZ, Reguera-Miranda. Thermal Decomposition of the Peroxide acid Glutaraldehyde in Solution of Methanol, Activation Parameters and Reaction Mechanism. Rev Cub Quim [online]. 2016, vol.28, n.3, pp.751-759. ISSN 2224-5421.

This paper presents the results obtained in the study of the thermal decomposition of diperoxide acid glutaraldehyde (DPAG) in methanol solution, to determine the parameters for activation and elucidate the reaction mechanism; the importance of this type of compound is because it has now been found to have pharmacological action as bactericidal, antitumour and as antimalarials. The reaction was carried out between 130.0 to 166.0 °C and initial concentration of 5.49 x 10-4 mol/L, it satisfies with a first order kinetic law to conversions peroxide ca. 50 %. Analysis of the reaction products and the parameter values activation contributes to postulate that the mechanism for thermolysis of DPAG in methanol solution begins with the homolytic cleavage of the peroxidic bond giving a biradical intermediate, which undergoes CO rupture giving glutaric acid and oxygen as final products.
