DIAZ-PINEDA, Javier et al. Impurities adsorption from the clarified juice of the sugarcane industry by pyrolized biomass. Rev Cub Quim [online]. 2019, vol.31, n.3, pp.463-477. ISSN 2224-5421.

In this work, two adsorbents were prepared from the Jatropha curcas fruit shell to evaluate its effectiveness in the colored impurities remotion present in the clarified juice, which is obtained from the sugarcane industry. Using milled and sieved Jatropha curcas fruit shell (diameter <2 mm), two pyrolized were produced, by initial dehydration with concentrated acids (sulfuric and phosphoric acid), and subsequent pyrolysis at 500 °C in nitrogen atmosphere. It was verified, by statistical analysis, that PAF (elaborated by phosphoric acid dehydration) eliminated 47,4±1,8 % of the colored impurities compared to 36,8±1,6 % eliminated by PAS (elaborated by sulfuric acid dehydration). The quality parameters of the PAF are within the ranges established for this type of adsorbent material. None of the pyrolized materials contaminated the clarified juice. Considering these results, can be suggested the introduction of these adsorbent materials into the productive process of the sugarcane industry.
