Abstract

FERRER-VINALS, Denisse; ALVAREZ-BRITO, Rubén  and  BAEZA-FONTE, Alen Nils. Development of nanostructured polymeric particles system to controlled release of 5-fluorouracil. Rev Cub Quim [online]. 2021, vol.33, n.2, pp.113-135.  Epub Apr 26, 2021. ISSN 2224-5421.

This work presents the steps towards the design of a new release system based on nanostructured particles of poly(butylcyanoacrylate) that were loaded with 5-Fluorouracyl. The monomer was previously synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic techniques. Then, polymeric particles were obtained by emulsion polymerization and characterized by FT-IR, RMN-1H, RMN-13C, MALDI-TOF while their size, morphology and electrokinetic characteristics were studied by SEM, DLS and zeta potential. Two drug loading mechanisms were studied: surface adsorption and absorption or entrapment in the polymeric network, the loading process of 5-Fluorouracyl to the nanostructured particles was followed by UV or HPLC. The nanospheres were stable and up to 500nm in size. 5-Fluorouracil loading studies showed an entrapment efficiency around 30% for both methodologies.

Keywords : n-butylcyanoacrylate; 5-Fluorouracil; controlled release; polymeric particles.
