Abstract

VEGA-GARCIA, Arles; MARINO-CASTELLANOS, Pedro Antonio  and  VELAZQUEZ-INFANTE, Julio. Structural and magnetic characterization of SrM/PLA multiferroic composite. Rev Cub Quim [online]. 2021, vol.33, n.2, pp.227-249.  Epub June 24, 2021. ISSN 2224-5421.

In this work, the structural and magnetic characterization of a potentially multiferroic system based on strontium ferrite (SrM) and poly lactic acid (PLA) is reported. SrM particles, obtained by the traditional ceramic method, were embedded in a PLA ferroelectric thermoplastic polymeric matrix. The structural and magnetic study was carried out using the experimental techniques of X-ray diffraction and vibrational magnetometry, respectively. To determine the phases present in each sample, the Hanawalt method was used through the Match-3! program "Phase Identification from Powder Diffraction". The results suggest the coexistence of both phases independently. For the ceramic system the parameters of the crystal lattice vary very little from the individual phase to the composite. The magnetic properties of the system are modulated as a function of the concentrations of the constituent phases and by the nature of the energetic and magnetic interactions between them.

Keywords : multiferroic composites; strontium ferrite; polylactic acid; structural and magnetic characterization.
