BERMUDEZ SAVON, Rosa Catalina et al. Evaluation of the spent substrate of Pleurotus sp. mushrooms in the production of Carica papaya Lin. seedlings. RTQ [online]. 2021, vol.41, n.2, pp.426-439.  Epub 30-Jul-2021. ISSN 2224-6185.

ABSTRACT

Mushrooms Pleurotus sp. are de most popular and cultivated at industrial scale for their ease of cultivation, economy of production and high nutritional quality. Due to this, thousands of tons of agro-industrials wastes are generated annually, which have potential use as organic amendments. The spent substrate (SRS, in spanish), obtained from the cultivation of Pleurotus sp. containing mycelia biomass, it is used as organic fertilizer for growing plants. In this work the spent substrate is evaluated in the production of seedlings of Carica papaya Lin., variety Maradol Roja under semi-protected crop conditions. Certified papaya seeds and dry substrates (pure and combined) were used: SRS, earthworm humus and a combination of both. The experimental design was completely randomized blocks with simple classification with three replications, using earthworm humus as a control. The evaluation of the morphological parameters showed that the best results are obtained with the mixture of SRS (60%) and humus (40%), which constitutes one more example of how the biotechnology of Pleurotus sp. involved in powerful bioconversions of renewable materials and processing technologies.
