Abstract
DELGADO, Anay et al. Pouteria sapota Against Haemonchus contortus. First Report. Rev. prod. anim. [online]. 2016, vol.28, n.2-3, pp.51-54. ISSN 2224-7920.
The hydro-alcoholic extract of the seed of Pouteria sapota is traditionally used as insecticide against louses. This study was carried out to evaluate the in vitro effect of this plant against the eggs of the parasitic nematode of small ruminants Haemonchus contortus. To do that an egg hatching assay was made. Compared to the negative control, significant ovicidal effects were observed (P < 0.05) with a hatching inhibition of 100 % for the highest concentration (5.32 mg/mL).The result suggests that P. sapota possess anthelmintic activity against Haemonchus contortus.
