Background:

Leptospirosis is the most widespread zoonosis at present. Numerous animal species act as reservoirs of the spirochete. The objective of this research was to establish its seasonal behavior in horses.

Methods:

To this end, the information relative to 1099 horse sera reactors to Leptospira collected monthly during 10 years was used. A seasonal decomposition was made by the multiplicative method, with which the seasonality was established with a quarterly frequency of the proportion of positive reactors during the decade.

Results:

The highest proportion of reactors corresponded to the October, November and December quarter, with a seasonal factor above 100 %. Coincident with not very rainy period, result that does not correspond with the majority of the referred thing for humans and other animal species.

Conclusions:

The highest proportion of equine reactors to Leptospira corresponded to the fourth quarter of the studied period; The rainy period, which differs from much of the published, so it is necessary to go further in this regard.
