Currently, the management of heterogeneous networks affects the performance of infrastructures in many organizations, both inside and outside the country, causing economic losses and the degradation of the quality of services. The great diversity of existing standards and standardization organizations for network management and the non-existence of a guide for selecting the appropriate mechanisms make the design of an integrated management system an arduous task. This research reviews the best practices in the management of heterogeneous networks, the most used standards, the recommendations of the most recognized manufacturers of management tools and network devices, the opinion of specialists in the area, among others. In addition, it makes an approach to this topic in the area of management that will allow organizations to design management systems with a high level of integration in heterogeneous network environments.
