Abstract

This article analyzes the state of political science at the end of the 19th century that is evident in Jose Marti's thought. It focuses on Martí´s reception of the ideas of some jurisconsults, politicians, historians, philosophers, from Europe, the United States and Latin America, such as: Calixto Bernal, Pasquale S. Mancini, Ernest Renan, Augusto Comte, Wendell Phillips, Peter Cooper, Luis Varela, and Simón Bolívar; it also values Marti´s critique on political practice in Latin America and the United States. Jose Marti is considered a founder of political science of south because he contributes to the formation of codes, categories and terms referring to political behavior.
