PINERA-CASTRO, Hector Julio. Neuroscience in José Martí’s written work. Anales de la ACC [online]. 2024, vol.14, n.4 Epub 01-Dic-2024. ISSN 2304-0106.
Introduction:
Avid scholars of José Martí's written work have been able to note that the most brilliant and universal of Cuban thinkers deployed his intellectual creation around the most unsuspected topics. These writings contain valuable foundations, conceptions, values and definitions that are beneficial to current and future health science professionals.
Objective:
To analyze the presence of neuroscience in José Martí’s written work.
Methods:
A qualitative research of documentary analysis type was carried out in the Complete Works of José Martí. In the processing of the compiled data, they were used the methods analytical-synthetic (to decompose the texts into their basic components and synthesize the relevant information), inductive-deductive (to generate hypotheses from specific observations and then deduce general conclusions) and historical-logical (to historically contextualize the writings and analyze their internal logic). The triangulation of data and methods made it possible to increase the rigor and robustness of this research.
Results:
In Martí’s written work, neuroscientific topics related to neuromorphophysiology, language, intelligence, learning, memory, sleep, mental illnesses and other affections of the nervous system are addressed.
Conclusions:
Neuroscience is present in Martí’s work. The knowledge that this written production transmits has a remarkable validity and reveals an author of a formidable genius, knowledgeable of many neuroscientific conceptions of the time.
