TORRALBAS OSLE, Jorge Enrique; MARTINEZ TORRES, José Luis y CORCHO ROSALES, Emely. Subjective productions associated with political participation in social media of adult Cubans. Anales de la ACC [online]. 2025, vol.15, n.1 Epub 01-Abr-2025. ISSN 2304-0106.
Introduction:
The study of subjective productions related to political participation in social media is especially relevant in the current context. In recent years, Cuba has experienced a significant expansion in Internet access. The historical structuring of Cuban society and the current sociopolitical context in the country demand empirical studies that investigate this particular subject.
Objective:
To characterize the subjective productions associated with the political participation of adults living in Cuba.
Methods:
A single-question questionnaire was used in a sample of 4 207 persons between 18 and 85 years of age. It was used the R programming language for Windows (v. 4.3.3) for data processing and analysis. It was used a qualitative approach and it was carried out a thematic analysis of the responses obtained. They were used topic modeling and sentiment analysis.
Results:
They were identified nine topics underlying the subjects discourse on political participation in social networks. Perceptions ranged from apathy and perceived waste of time, to the valorization of political expression and the defense of ideals.
Conclusions:
This overview suggests that while some people see social networks as an active platform for political participation and personal expression, some other perceive them as a problematic or irrelevant space for real influence in politics. Attitudes toward digital political participation are influenced by age.
Palabras clave : social media; political participation; digital socialization.
