MANASSERO MAS, María Antonia; RAMIS PALMER, Carmen D; RAMIREZ VELAZQUEZ, Ethel  and  GUERRA RODRIGUEZ, Luis Eduardo. Working Expectations and Executive Potential of Tourism and Hospitality Students. Rev retos [online]. 2016, vol.10, n.2, pp.68-89. ISSN 2306-9155.

The aim of this study was to diagnose the expectations, working priorities and executive potential of a group of first-year students of the Tourism Degree, at the Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz University of Camaguey, Cuba. Additionally, focal developing groups were set up. Two questionnaires were applied, and the data were assessed with Statgraphics Centurion VXI, and its descriptive analysis techniques. The students' working expectations were identified as lower than the potential for executives. The main aspects to focus on are: communicative skills, professionalism, executive vocation, motivation and dynamism, self-updating, interpersonal relations and working creativity. Three working groups were set up, with 24, 21, and 5 individuals, according to the characteristics expressed in the tests. Graphic tools were used to show the positions of groups and individuals, along with the source information, which will be relevant to set up a further research phase, in which new undergraduate complementary syllabus can be designed and evaluated.

Keywords : executive potential; working expectations; competitions; tourism degree.
