Abstract

This research explains the reality of spontaneous uncontrolled immigration in Guantánamo city, and its relationship with the enlargement of the unplanned urban communities (emerging communities). The research is contextualized in the Palmira community, located to northeast of Guantanamo city, whose formation has been associated with sustained process of spontaneous uncontrolled immigration, from various municipalities in the province. In the study, the origin of the displacements described from the application of quantitative and qualitative methods; emphasizing in the phenomenological understanding of the formation of the community and the reconfiguration of collective identity.
