The article reflects on the potential of heritage education as a process that can influence social development. The main theories of development are discussed, as well as conferences of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (Unesco), where education is highlighted as an important instrument for the development of nations. It also socializes on the strengths and limitations of heritage education in Cuba, for which the example of the Children's Social Program of the Office of the Historian of Havana is taken, which, with the projects it integrates, constitutes a successful reference for heritage education. Reflect on how heritage education is a process that, from its systematic, interdisciplinary and contextualized nature, seeks to contribute to the recognition and safeguarding of heritage and social development.
