In view of develop mentalism that threatens to become hegemonic again in our region, practical measures are being taken to promote emancipatory paradigm because this not only suggests a new way of producing and managing human life, but also tries to create man-nature relations of another type. Among these measures taken in Cuba is Environmental Education which attempts to raise people´s consciousness about organic relations between the human race and nature. One of the major challenges faced by this education is to mean something to children who will build future society. However, what techniques and tools can foster environmental consciousness? This paper suggests some ways of facing this challenge since it shows an experience of environmental education in which participatory mapping and Geographic Information Systems in Havana primary schools are used.
