Abstract

GONZALEZ CRUZ, Pedro Luis. Possibility of the festivities for the local development of Pinar del Río. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2018, vol.6, n.3, e18. ISSN 2308-0132.

The festivities held annually in Pinar del Rio, which included religious events and popular celebrations, known as festivals, became traditions of the people of this province.

However, today they are not in force, despite the possibilities they have for local development. The objective then is to analyze the possibilities of the festivities for local development of Pinar del Río. The methods and techniques used are the historical-logical, the analysis of bibliographic sources, observation and interview.

Currently only some of these events are celebrated, most of them within the areas of the churches. They are celebrations that, due to their identity values, must be revitalized, adjusting the disclosure and planning to their calendar. Implicit in current theories of endogenous development, they can be important for regional development, since they raise the quality of life and can serve as the basis for achieving economic and social objectives.

Keywords : local development; tradition; festivities.
