The article reflects on the challenges and limitations for the self-employment sector and the non-agricultural cooperative in the economic contracting process, from a perspective that involves its lacks and main issues. The article also includes the background of the exercise of self-employment activity, as well as analyses the non-agricultural cooperative behaviour in Cuba. The main limitations regarding the economic contracting process are addressed in a larger dimension, related to planning, competence, social responsibility and the market's role within the current Cuban economy.
