Resumen
ALFARO BLANCO, Alberto Agustín. José Martí’s Ethics and the Social Development in Latin America. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2020, vol.8, n.1, 8. Epub 14-Abr-2020. ISSN 2308-0132.
This paper discusses effects of neoliberal globalization and increasing differences between developed and developing countries on Latin America, particularly education. It claims that José Martí’s ethical and emancipatory ideas are an alternative to modernity advocated by capitalism since the 18th century and exacerbated by today’s consumerism. It includes extracts from Martí’s works which show his thinking on such topics as the rights to freedom, justice, equity and inclusion -in every sense of the word-, work, education, culture and mutual respect. Agreement of his thinking with contemporary postulates by the United Nations, UNESCO, UNICEF and CEPAL is stressed. To study Martí’s ideas can contribute to the design and adoption of inclusive, fair and democratic policies on education in the continent.
