The present work made a brief approximation of the family-work relationship, in rural settings of Cuba, from an approach that transcends the economic dimension with which these topics have traditionally been treated. Subjective and relational dynamics, commonly invisible in these lines of research, are included in the analysis. Based on the assumption that there is a dialectical interrelation between these two pairs, 14 families were studied, from the rural settlements in the Caimito and Aguada de Pasajeros municipalities. It is concluded that families have resources, cultural capital and forms of organization that allow them to contribute to employment development, but also, that these forms of employment, have an influence in the family organization guidelines.
