The relevance of local development in Cuba places geographic communities at the center of attention. The particular case of the study community responds to the San Antonio de los Baños municipality belonging to the Artemisa province. The research analyzes what problems catalyze social participation and how residents are articulated to integrate into the transformation processes that take place in it. The results point to the identification of economic, social and cultural needs arising from a series of problems. The participation of the inhabitants is oriented towards the search for solutions. Although participation actions are punctual, they harbor the potential of being systematic and comprehensive. The networks that are articulated around these forms of participation mainly include family, friends and neighbors; it is also appreciated a link with institutional actors.
