Environmental degradation is a problem that greatly harms our planet, so it is important to investigate the existence of preventive practices in public institutions that allow counteracting this problem, such as the practice of public social responsibility in state purchases. The objective of this work is to carry out a bibliographic analysis on public social responsibility and state purchases, specifically if they are focused on preventing environmental deterioration and if they promote environmental sustainability. The methodology was of a narrative nature with a mixed tendency, through which the sources obtained were collected and analyzed. It was obtained as a result that public procurement processes in various countries of the world include criteria of environmental sustainability. It is concluded that social responsibility must be practiced by people and institutions and by incorporating environmental sustainability criteria in state purchases, it is encouraged and contributes to caring for, protecting and preserving the environment in the face of increasing environmental degradation.
