Abstract

HERNANDEZ, Bárbaro Rafael  and  GONZALEZ BORGES, María de los Á.. Periodicity as mediation in the construction of reality. ARCIC [online]. 2018, vol.7, n.18, pp.186-206.  Epub June 27, 2019. ISSN 2411-9970.

The construction of reality made by the media is mainstreamed by various mediations that condition the process of message production, including structural organizational mediation. As part of this mediation, the periodicity of the medium also influences the way that reality is treated and presented. From a qualitative perspective, the present research proposed, among other objectives, to define the relationship between the periodicity of publication of the Granma newspaper and the weekly Trabajadores, of Cuba, and trends in the use of journalistic styles and genres. The bibliographic or documentary review, the qualitative content analysis, the participant observation, the focal groups, the field notes and the interview to the directors were used as methods of inquiry. The population was constituted by the national writing of both newspapers and the sample was conformed, in Granma by 94 selected units from a statistical equation and 398 journalistic works pertaining to the economic, political and social spheres; in Trabajadores, the total sample was analyzed, 24 copies, with 208 journalistic works related to these spheres. The periodicity in the publication of Granma y Trabajadores, plays a decisive role in the organization of production processes, however, the result is not the same in the use of journalistic styles and genres where the informative style prevails, without the presence of the interpretation and scarce exercise of opinion in the treatment of Cuban reality in the studied stage.

Keywords : Periodicity; mediations; style; journalistic genre.
