From its genesis, the Communication field has behen distinguished for its marked contextual and pragmatic character besides an insufficient epistemological legitimacy. Taking into account this statement, in the present investigation is carried out an approach to this field from the information metrics studies perspective taking as relating the scientific production generated in this area starting from the valuation of the scientific yield. In the present contribution this matter is analyzed starting from the scientific production covered in Scopus in the period 2003-2013 and on the base of the excellence and leadership indicators contemplated in the Scimago Institution Ranking (SIR) platform.
