Information is one of the main pillars for the construction of knowledge, which allows the development and advancement of society in all its disciplines. This broad vision of the value of information and knowledge in academic spaces requires the generation of tools that guarantee their ordering, classification and systematization. Therefore, the following research shows the methodology followed for the design of a specialized thesaurus in the area of ​​Materials Science for the Nínive Institutional Repository of the University of Moa Dr. Antonio Núñez Jiménez. Several guide documents were used that describe the procedures for the construction and design of a specialized thesaurus, in addition to the use of library tools. For the preparation of the thesaurus, the software TemaTres was used; presenting a structured set of descriptors that unify and enrich the core of terms to be used in the processing and retrieval of information.
