The omnipresence of information as a resource is not only manifested in documents, but also in the development of processes that characterize organizational contexts and in the intellectual and information skills of its personnel. In university institutions, research and postgraduate processes complement each other in order to develop scientific production and the sustainability of professional training. Emphasis is placed on Information Management and its incidence in the concatenation of these two institutional processes. The study focuses on the informational context of the University of Pinar del Río "Hermanos Saiz Montes de Oca", with the aim of investigating the main irregularities that affect Information Management in favor of the development of research and postgraduate processes. The Documentary Analysis method is applied in combination with focus group techniques and the problem tree to characterize the established problem. The relevance of information in institutional management, as a catalyst for academic-investigative processes, is reaffirmed.
