Bibliomed sobre drogadicción

El abuso de drogas y la drogadicción son un problema de salud pública que afecta a muchas personas y tiene amplias repercusiones sociales. La drogadicción sí comienza con el abuso de drogas. En algún momento, ocurren cambios en el cerebro que pueden convertir al abuso de drogas en adicción, una enfermedad crónica y recurrente. Los drogadictos sufren de ansias y uso compulsivos de la droga, y no pueden dejar de usarla por sí mismos. Necesitan un tratamiento para poder terminar con este comportamiento compulsivo.1

La familia, la escuela y la comunidad son pilares de importancia para los programas de prevención.

Según denuncia reciente realizada por la ONU, el consumo y tráfico de drogas afecta a más de 190 millones de personas en el mundo, fenómeno además que es responsable de más del 50 % de la delincuencia mundial.

En Cuba, existe un programa médico integral que garantiza la abstinencia en el consumo de tóxicos, a partir de la modificación del estilo de vida y de la aplicación de técnicas de control de la situación por parte del paciente. Existe además el servicio de Consejería Confidencial Antidrogas, estrictamente privado que informa, aclara dudas y se le brinda a la población por teléfono, si es necesario se vincula con la red asistencial a través de los Centros Comunitarios de Salud Mental si la persona necesita atención específica. Este servicio está integrado por profesionales de la salud altamente calificados, médicos, psicólogos, psiquiatras, trabajadores sociales, etcétera.2
