LETTER TO THE EDITOR
PRINCIPAL FUNGI DISEASES IN TRITICALES AND WHEAT IN SAN JOSÉ DE LAS LAJAS - HAVANA PROVINCE
Dear Sr.:
Several Triticales and wheat collections from International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Mexico, were evaluated in Cuba for animal feeding purposes. Phytopathological evaluations were carried out at the experimental area of the National Institute for Agricultural Sciences (INCA), San José de las Lajas, Havana Province, for two years. For the first time in the country, the presence of disease causal agents Helminthosporium sativum P.K. & B., on leaves and spikes; Fusarium culmorum (W.G. Smith) Sacc., on spike; Puccinia graminis Pers. and Curvularia sp., on spike, were detected in these cultures. According to distribution and damage, the most important phytopathogens were H. sativum and F. culmorum for wheat and the first one for Triticales.
