Actividad antimicrobiana del Schinus terebenthifolius Raddi (copal)

Lic.

SUMMARY

Antimicrobial activity of different concentrations of a fluid extract (30 % ethanol) from leaves of Schinus terebenthifolius Raddi (copal) was studied, with a bacterium having a minimum of strains of microorganisms, including Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis as gram-positive agent and Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa as gram-negative agent as well as yeast (Candida albicans), by means of agar diffusion method. Results show that in the smallest concentration used (10 % of fluid extract), there was not inhibition of none of microorganisms assessed, while in concentration of 50 and 100 % of fluid extract, there is a response of inhibition to gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, but not with the yeast. Results contribute experimentally to ratify the traditional use of this plant as a antimicrobial agent. It is suggested that processing of pharmaceutical forms allowing amplify more efficiently its use to that purpose.
