Research has its origins as far back as the evolution of man. From the earliest times man has felt the need to investigate, to know and understand the world around him, as well as to modify it for his personal well-being. That is why he has proposed throughout history to carry out research on different topics, which have brought with them all the scientific, technological and social advances that humanity has today.

Research methodology refers to the techniques, methods, instruments or processes that are taken into account when conducting scientific research, which is why it is so important for a researcher to master these elements.

The importance of the Basic Researcher's Manual by the authors Dr. C. Ceila Matos Columbié and Dr. C. Zulema de la Caridad Matos Columbié is that its purpose is to offer some basic ideas to elaborate a design and later some considerations on the structure of a final report with the rank or character of a thesis and the scientific article, as well as some elements to take into account at the time of the discussion.

The reviewed work has great scientific actuality and relevance in spite of having been written in 2006. It provides readers with the basic elements of research design in a much more pleasant and understandable way. ^{Matos and Columbié (2006)}.

This manual summarizes all the elements of research design.

It also includes the structure of the final report, explosion and defense, and scientific article writing; all these elements of indispensable knowledge for undergraduate, graduate, masters and doctoral students.

The work has a lot of scientific actuality because the subject of research methodology is included in the study program of university students in the discipline of didactic, labor and research training; therefore, it is considered a material of obligatory consultation by students and professors of university education.

The reviewed work is written according to the standards, has a presentation and is divided into chapters. Chapter one of this manual contains the elements of research design, where concepts, analysis, writing styles and examples of the different elements of research design are expressed, which are proposed in a very accessible way to undergraduate students. In chapter two, the authors state the structure of the final report. Chapter three deals with the elements to be taken into account at the time of the exposition and defense of the work, preparing the researcher for this significant moment of his research. Chapter four deals with the elements of scientific article writing. This chapter is very important because it expresses the elements for the publication of the results of the research carried out; it introduces the researcher to the writing of scientific articles.

This manual proposes to its readers or researchers the indispensable elements for the realization of a research, a thesis or diploma work, a master's or doctoral thesis, the elements for the realization of the defense of work, as well as the publication of the results of their research through a scientific article.

The manual responds to Resolution no. 2/2018 Regulation of teaching and methodological work in higher education, expressed in its articles 143, 144, 145, 145, 146, 146, 147, 148, 175, 177 and 232 referring to diploma work as a culmination of study and the defense of the same.

The spelling, writing and style are acceptable. The language used by the author is pleasant and understandable, direct and clear; therefore, it constitutes a good reference material for a researcher.

The work lists 35 bibliographical references. 28.5 % of the references belong to the years between 2010-2022; 40 % correspond to the years 2000-2009, 25 % correspond to the years 1990-1999 and the remaining percent is distributed between the 70s and the 80s. The aforementioned indicators are acceptable, indicating that the citation pattern is adequate.
