Organizations, besides having the technological means for generating, synthetizing and transferring knowledge, should have systems that facilitate the flow of this knowledge and the generation of new researches. An example of the previously exposed idea is the Cuban Journal of Agricultural Science, which belongs to the Ministry of Higher Education, accredited by CITMA since 2000 and cited in international databases like EBESCO, Latindex, AGRIS, Redalyc and SCOPUS.

Sponsored by the Institute of Animal Science (ICA, initials in Spanish) from the Republic of Cuba, this journal was released for the first time in 1967, and, since 2004, it has an electronic version, in order to distribute the technical and scientific advances related to agriculture and livestock. For five decades, it has consolidated as a prestigious publication and means for spreading information of the agricultural field, as well as for its relevance and intellectual qualities, exposed by several generations, which have been writing their own history.

The institute is proud of having this journal and counts on the dedication of an Editorial Committee, on a supportive staff and on its Director. All of them carry out a team work, where cooperation and professionalism are key elements to spread the development and advances of agricultural and animal husbandry, with the novelty and knowledge of new young people. There are other important elements to highlight, such as the scientific rigor of authors and the paper selection, because they provide a good quality that, together with its hard work, have made it worthy of several awards.

The celebration of this 50th anniversary is privileged, together with the celebration of half a century of work at ICA, and motivates us to go through the achievements, celebrate this date and prepare ourselves for the future. This implies working on increasing impact and quality of each paper, exposing new results, maintain its novelty, promote scientific debate and fulfill the expectations of our readers.

The Head of the institute confirms its trust on the future of this publication, convinced that it will ratify its position and organization through a systemic approach, which will allow to maintain an accelerated and constant development.
