Letter of the Editor

Nota del Editor

The Institute of Animal Science was founded in 1965 with the objective of developing researches on animal production field and favoring the development of Cuban livestock on solid scientific and technical basis.

After a few months of intense scientific work, it was necessary to make available all the advances, obtained in researches, to those interested in farming and animal rearing, and facilitate the introduction of results to the social practice. Therefore, it was necessary to create an appropriate means for it and, in 1967, the first issue of the Cuban Journal of Agricultural Science was published.

Spanish is one of the major languages of the world. Many countries who speak that language base its economy on agricultural production, but the need of bringing knowledge to the international scientific community was evident. Therefore, the decision of delivering an edition in Spanish and English was made.

During the first stage, the papers of the journal were a product of researches conducted at the Institute. After a few years, the contribution of foreign authors increased and currently occupies a prominent space on its pages.

This journal has maintained a constant edition for 50 years. First, it was printed on paper and later, in electronic format and available to readers with open access on the Internet, with the variant that it is published in two columns, one in Spanish and another in English, to facilitate national and international visibility.

The Editorial Board is composed of recognized national and foreign professionals, as well as a qualified team of translators, linguists, designer and other disciplines that will print a stamp of quality, originality, novelty, scientific rigor and contribution to the knowledge within the published articles. Thanks to the joint efforts of this group, the journal has been the recipient of several national and international awards.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of its foundation and it is time to reflect on their successes and failures, set new goals in order to achieve greater visibility, offer the progress of the several disciplines of animal production and train human resources in order to ensure, improve and favor the continuity of this work.

To all those who in one way or another have contributed and collaborated with this task, we give our gratitude and appreciation.
