Para su realización se planteó un enfoque mixto de investigación de diseño no experimental descriptivo. Se aplicó una encuesta a 340 estudiantes y se realizó un grupo de discusión integrado por diez estudiantes. Se usó la técnica de análisis de contenido con apoyo del software NVivo. Los resultados se agruparon en tres categorías: Conocimiento sobre el plagio, Actos en los que existe plagio y Conductas sobre el plagio. En lo que se refiere al conocimiento, se encontró que los estudiantes califican el plagio como un acto deshonesto en el que existe apropiación de ideas. Respecto a los actos en los que se comete plagio, la apropiación de ideas extraídas de internet destaca como una de las actividades más comunes. Asimismo, los estudiantes afirman haber incurrido en conductas deshonestas y, si bien no están de acuerdo con ello, perciben el plagio como una práctica normal en la universidad y permitida.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to describe the social representations of university students about plagiarism in academic writing at a private university in Arequipa, Peru. A mixed approach to descriptive non-experimental design research was proposed for its realization. A survey of 340 students was applied and a discussion group consisting of ten students was conducted. The content analysis technique was used with support from NVivo software. The results were grouped into three categories: Knowledge about plagiarism, Acts in which there is plagiarism and Behaviors about plagiarism. Regarding knowledge, it was found that students describe plagiarism as a dishonest act in which there is appropriation of ideas. Regarding the acts in which plagiarism is committed, the appropriation of ideas taken from the Internet stands out as one of the most common activities. Likewise, students claim to have incurred dishonest behaviors and, although they disagree with it, they perceive plagiarism as a normal practice in the university and allowed.]]></p></abstract>
