Actualmente, la producción mundial supera los 6,2 millones de toneladas de setas frescas por año. Su valor económico aproximado eleva los 30 billones de dólares. Las especies Pleurotus ostreatus y Lentinus edodes representan el 4,9% de la producción toral de setas comestibles. El presente trabajo tuvo como finalidad estudiar la fructificación de dos especies de setas comestibles-medicinales de interés comercial: Pleurotus ostreatus y Lentinus edodes, utilizando la cáscara (fibra) de coco como sustrato de siembra. Los cultivos se realizaron en bolsas de polietileno. Como parámetro de productividad se evaluó la Eficiencia Biológica (EB). Los resultados del trabajo muestran la factibilidad del cultivo de estas setas comestibles de interés comercial, utilizando este desecho industrial, lo que permite su aprovechamiento en la alimentación humana y animal.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Commercial production of edible mushrooms is every day more important. Currently, world production exceeds 6.2 million tons of fresh mushrooms per year. Their approximate economic values elevate 30 billion dollars. The species Pleurotus ostreatus and Lentinus edodes represent 4.9% of the total production of edible mushrooms. The purpose of this work was to study the fruiting of two species of edible-medicinal mushrooms whit commercial interest: Pleurotus ostreatus and Lentinus edodes, using coconut shell as substrate. The cultures were carried out in polyethylene bags. As a productivity parameter, Biological Efficiency (BE) was evaluated. The results show the feasibility of growing these edible mushrooms of commercial interest, using this industrial waste, which allows their use in human and animal food.]]></p></abstract>
