Estudio de algunos factores maternos asociados con el bajo peso

Resumen: Se realiza un estudio retrospectivo de 134 madres con embarazo simple y recién nacido con bajo peso (grupo estudio) y 135 madres con recién nacidos de peso normal (grupo control) en el municipio de Marianao durante el año 1993. Se analizó la talla materna, el peso inicial al embarazo y la ganancia global de peso, así como el hábito de fumar y los antecedentes obstétricos. Se concluye que la baja talla influyó notablemente en los casos recién nacidos con bajo peso, así como la malnutrición y la poca ganancia de peso durante la gestación. El hábito de fumar y la nulípara con antecedentes de abortos fueron los antecedentes obstétricos más importantes.

Summary: A retrospective study of 134 mothers with single pregnancy and newborns with low birth weight (case-base study) and of 135 mothers with newborns of normal birth weight (control group) was conducted in the municipality of Marianao during 1993. The maternal stature, the body weight at the beginning of pregnancy, the total weight gain, the smoking habit and the obstetric antecedents wee analyzed. It is concluded that short stature had a marked influence on those cases of newborns with low weight, as well as malnutrition and the low weight gain during pregnancy. The most important obstetric antecedent were the smoking habit and the nulliparous women with previous abortions.
