El año 2014 avizora grandes cambios en el panorama latinoamericano, atendiendo a los resultados de la reciente reunión de los Jefes de los Estados de Latinoamérica y el Caribe en La Habana. Nuevos retos deben enfrentar nuestros pueblos en lo social y lo económico, lo que demandará de los profesionales una renovada mirada a los problemas que aquejan a nuestro continente y junto a esto, nuevas vías de solución.

Este año tendrán lugar en La Habana dos foros profesionales muy importantes que seguramente servirán como punto de encuentro para debatir sobre estos trascendentales asuntos: el Encuentro Latinoamericano de Estudiantes de Arquitectura, ELEA en el mes de octubre con el tema "Ciudades Creativas. Ciudades del Siglo XXI" y el III Congreso MedioAmbienteConstruidoyDesarrolloSustentable, MACDES 2014, que tendrá lugar en el mes de noviembre, como parte de la XVII Convención de Ingeniería y Arquitectura de la Cujae. Por supuesto, nuestra revista continuará siendo un espacio para tratar los problemas de la arquitectura y el urbanismo de los países en desarrollo, camino que iniciara treinta y cinco años atrás.

En este número ponemos a disposición de nuestros lectores algunos resultados de investigación que abarcan problemas diferentes, pero que tienen como denominador común ese marcado interés por el conocimiento del patrimonio, su desarrollo y conservación, la mayoría enfocados hacia problemas de escala urbana. Otros materiales que abordan temas profesionales y académicos complementan la propuesta que inicia el año, los cuales esperamos sean de su interés.

The year 2014 envisions major changes in the Latin American context, according to the results of the recent meeting of the Heads of States of Latin America and the Caribbean in Havana. Our people must face new challenges in the social and economic spheres, which will require a renewed professional look of the problems that affect our continent and along with this, new ways of solution.

This year two major professional forums will take place in Havana, which surely will serve as a meeting to discuss these momentous matters: the Meeting of Latin American Students of Architecture, ELEA in October, which will focus on the theme "Creative Cities. Cities of the XXI Century" and the other meeting is the III International Congress MACDES 2014, Built Environment and Sustainable Development, in November, as part of the XVII Convention of Engineering and Architecture at our university. Of course, our journal will continue to be a space to address the problems of architecture and urbanism in developing countries, road initiated thirty-five years ago.

In this issue we offer to our readers some papers which cover different problems, but have in common the strong interest in the knowledge of the built heritage, its development and conservation, most of them focused on urban and territorial scale. Other materials addressing professional and academic subjects complement the proposal that initiates the year, which we hope will be of interest.
