Se proyecta un crecimiento de la población mundial de alrededor de 10 billones de habitantes para el 2050, por lo que se necesitará un promedio de 32,3 (TW) para suplir sus necesidades energéticas. Debido a la inestabilidad de los precios del petróleo y al aumento de la conciencia medioambientalista muchos países del mundo han optado por las fuentes renovables de energía. Estudios previos demostraron que la Bahía de Banes, en la zona oriental de Cuba,existen las condiciones para la explotación de la energía hidrocinética. Como parte de este trabajo se realiza un estudio de las tecnologías existentes seleccionando el tipo de turbina a utilizar. Una vez seleccionada la turbina se realizaron simulaciones para analizar el comportamiento del Sistema Electroenergético Nacional (SEN) en el punto de conexión del parque hidrocinético a la red.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Most of the energy used worldwide is distributed between the electricity generation and transport sectors. World population growth of around 10 billion people is projected by 2050, so an average of 32.3 (TW) will be needed to meet its energy needs. Due to unstable oil prices and increased environmental awareness, many countries around the world have turned to renewable sources of energy. Previous studies have shown that the Banes Bay, in the eastern part of Cuba, exists the conditions for the exploitation of hydrokinetic energy. As part of this work, a study of existing technologies is carried out, selecting the type of turbine to use. Once the turbine was selected, simulations were carried out to analyze the behavior of the Electric Power System (SEN) at the connection point of the hydrokinetic park to the network.]]></p></abstract>
