Three cows in a completely randomized design were used. Tubular plastic mesh bags, with hole size of 3 mm were used with 100 g of hard molasses blocks, incubated in the dorsal sac of rumen during different fermentation times: 30, 60, 120, 240 and 480 min. The fraction of disappearance to the wash was 2.57 %. The average disappearance speed was 213 mg.min-1 and was fitted next to D, a quadratic polynomial regression model (R2=0.67 and 0.95, respectively), in which it reached a maximum value at 480 min (76.4 %). The remainder of 23.4 % corresponds to a particle size between 4 and 7 mm. It is concluded that the hard molasses blocks achieve a slow release of their components over time, finding material in the rumen of the cannulated cows still at 480 min of incubation.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen El objetivo del trabajo fue determinar la desaparición y la velocidad de desaparición de tacos duros de melaza enteros en el rumen de vacas canuladas y alimentadas con un heno de baja calidad. Se utilizaron tres vacas en un diseño completamente aleatorizado. Se utilizaron bolsas de malla plástica tubulares, con tamaño de agujero de 3 mm con 100 g de tacos duros de melaza, incubados en el saco dorsal del rumen durante diferentes tiempos de fermentación: 30, 60, 120, 240 y 480 min. La fracción de desaparición al lavado fue de 2.57 %. La velocidad de desaparición promedio fue de 13 mg.min-1 y se ajustó junto a la desaparición, un modelo de regresión polinómico cuadrático (R2 = 0.67 y 0.95, respectivamente), en el que alcanzó un valor máximo a los 480 min (76.4 %). El remanente de 23.4 % corresponde a un tamaño de partícula entre 4 y 7 mm. Se concluye que los tacos duros de melaza logran una lenta liberación de sus componentes con el transcurso del tiempo, encontrándose material en el rumen de las vacas canuladas aún a los 480 min de incubación.]]></p></abstract>
