<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2079-34802017000400477&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2079-34802017000400477&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2079-34802017000400477&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract With the objective of knowing the productive performance under the climatic conditions of Mayabeque province in the West of Cuba, six varieties of elephant grass, three of Pennisetum purpureum (Morado, king grass, and Cuba CT-169) and three hybrids of Pennisetum purpureum x Pennisetum glaucum (Cuba OM-22, H-1 and H-2). A random block design was used in five plots of 5x5 m2 in a red ferralitic soil. Cuts belonging to dry season were made every 90 days, and those of rainy period were made every 60 days. Fertilization was applied at a rate of 250 kg of N/ha/year in the form of urea. During dry season, irrigation was applied every 15 days with a standard of 250 m3/ha. Production of DM/ha/year was 23.1-35.2 - 35.7 - 34.4 - 38.8 and 14.1 tons of dry matter (DM)/ha/year for Morado, king grass, Cuba CT-169, Cuba OM-22, H-1 and H-2 respectively. Cuba OM-22 showed higher production and leaf proportion (16.6 t/DM/ha and 48.7 %, respectively). Varieties with lower (P&lt;0.005) yield of dry matter (Morado and H-2) had higher percentage of crude protein in the plant, but lower yield of CP/ha/year. Cuba OM-22 maintained a high percentage of CP with high yield of DM. Thermal sum was similar for both seasons and there was no direct relationship between the thermal sum and yields, and the age at cut had an influence on results. Yields were similar for the best studied varieties so there should be a focus on proportion of leaves among them and other qualities.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Con el objetivo de conocer el comportamiento productivo en las condiciones climáticas de la provincia Mayabeque en el Occidente de Cuba, se evaluaron seis variedades de hierba elefante, tres de Pennisetum purpureum (Morado, king grass, y Cuba CT-169) y tres híbridos de Pennisetum purpureum x Pennisetum glaucum (Cuba OM-22, H-1 y H-2). Se utilizó un diseño de bloques al azar en cinco parcelas de 5x5 m2, en suelo Ferralítico rojo. Los cortes de la época poco lluviosa se hicieron cada 90 días, los del periodo lluvioso se hicieron cada 60 días. Se aplicó fertilización a razón de 250 kg de N/ha/año en forma de urea. Durante el periodo poco lluvioso se regó cada 15 días con una norma de 250 m3/ha. La producción de MS/ ha/año fue de 23.1- 35.2 - 35.7 - 34,4 - 38.8 y 14.1 toneladas de Materia Seca (MS) / ha /año para Morado, king grass, Cuba CT-169, Cuba OM-22, H-1 y H-2, respectivamente. La variedad Cuba OM-22 presentó la mayor producción y proporción de hojas (16.6 t/MS/ha y 48.7 %, respectivamente). Las variedades con menor (P&lt;0.005) rendimiento de MS (Morado y H-2) tuvieron mayor porcentaje de proteína bruta (PB) en la planta, pero menor rendimiento de PB /ha/año. Cuba OM-22 mantuvo alto el porcentaje de PB con alto rendimiento de MS. La suma térmica fue semejante para ambas épocas y no hubo una relación directa entre suma térmica y rendimientos, la edad de corte influyó en los resultados. Los rendimientos son semejantes para las mejores variedades estudiadas por lo que se debe prestar atención a la proporción de hojas entre ellas y otras cualidades.]]></p></abstract>
