DC. trees was evaluated in the botanical composition of the grassland in a cattle system of Carrizal-Chone region, Ecuador. Three tree amounts were used as treatments: low (1-4 trees/ha), medium (5-8 trees/ha) and high (9-12 trees/ha), distributed in a completely randomized design. A covariance analysis was applied to the variable final botanical composition (2014) in which the initial botanical composition (2012) was considered as covariate and tree amounts (3), species (5) and their interaction as the effects. A variance analysis was applied to the changes in the species coverage from 2012 to 2014, in which tree amounts (3), species (5) and their interaction were controlled. In both analyzes there was a highly significant effect (P&#706;0.001) of the interaction. The highest percentage of population was shown by the Megathyrsus maximus grass (saboya) at the high tree amount (45.7%). In the latter (9-12 trees/ha), Megathyrsus maximus, Cynodon nlemfuensis and creeping legumes species predominated, to the detriment of other grasses and broadleaf plants. With the level 9-12 trees/ha, the greatest increases in the coverage of saboya species (5.1%) and creeping legumes (2.2%) were achieved. Other grasses and broadleaf plants reduced their cover in all treatments. It is concluded that with 9-12 trees/ha of Prosopis juliflora, the botanical composition of the grassland is improved, by increasing the coverage of the most important species in the cattle systems of Carrizal-Chone, Ecuador.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Se evaluó el efecto del nivel de arborización con Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC. en la composición botánica del pastizal en un sistema vacuno de la región de Carrizal-Chone, Ecuador. Se utilizaron como tratamientos tres niveles de arborización: bajo (1-4 árboles/ha), medio (5-8 árboles/ha) y alto (9-12 árboles/ha), distribuidos en un diseño completamente aleatorizado. A la variable composición botánica final (2014) se le aplicó un análisis de covarianza en el que se consideró la composición botánica inicial (2012) como covariable y los efectos nivel de arborización (3), especie (5) y su interacción. A los cambios en la cobertura de las especies desde 2012 a 2014 se les aplicó un análisis de varianza, en el que se controló el nivel de arborización (3), especie (5) y su interacción. En ambos análisis hubo efecto altamente significativo (P&#706;0.001) de la interacción. El mayor porcentaje de población lo mostró el pasto Megathyrsus maximus (saboya) en el nivel alto de arborización (45.7%). En este último (9-12 árboles/ha) predominaron las especies Megathyrsus maximus, Cynodon nlemfuensis y leguminosas rastreras, en detrimento de otras gramíneas y plantas de hojas anchas. Con el nivel 9-12 árboles/ha se lograron los mayores incrementos de la cobertura en las especies saboya (5.1%) y leguminosas rastreras (2.2%). Otras gramíneas y plantas de hojas anchas redujeron su cobertura en todos los tratamientos. Se concluye que con 9-12 árboles/ha de Prosopis juliflora se mejora la composición botánica del pastizal, al incrementar la cobertura de las especies de mayor importancia en los sistemas vacunos de Carrizal-Chone, Ecuador.]]></p></abstract>
