La hipocolesterolemia en estos pacientes está asociada a peor pronóstico.  Objetivo  describir el valor pronóstico de las cifras de colesterol en la morbilidad y mortalidad de los pacientes atendidos en cuidados intensivos en el Centro Nacional de Cirugía de Mínimo Acceso de La Habana.  Método  se realizó una investigación descriptiva, retrospectiva en el Centro Nacional de Cirugía de Mínimo Acceso entre los años 2020-2021. El estudio incluyó adultos postoperados graves. Se analizaron variables demográficas, clínicas y de laboratorio. La información se volcó en base de datos relacional, creada según el programa IBM SPSS 21 y se procedió al análisis estadístico.  Resultados  el porcentaje de complicaciones, sepsis, la escala APACHE y la estadía fueron mayores en los pacientes con presencia de hipocolesterolemia. Los pacientes fallecidos exhibieron las cifras más bajas de colesterol en comparación con los pacientes que egresaron vivos.  Conclusiones  en el paciente postoperado grave la hipocolesterolemia implica un peor pronóstico por lo que debe ser considerada en la evolución de estos pacientes. Incorporarla al seguimiento periódico permitiría el diagnóstico precoz de complicaciones y disminuiría la mortalidad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Background:  metabolic disorders occur in severe postoperative patients, one of them is related to the lipid profile. Hypercholesterolemia in these patients is associated with a worse prognosis.  Objective:  to describe the prognostic value of cholesterol levels in the morbidity and mortality of patients treated in intensive care at the Minimal Access Surgery National Center in Havana.  Method:  a descriptive, retrospective research was carried out at the Minimal Access Surgery National Center between 2020 and 2021. The study included severely postoperative adults. Demographic, clinical and laboratory variables were analyzed. The information was entered into a relational database, created according to the IBM SPSS 21 program, and statistical analysis was carried out.  Results:  the percentage of complications, sepsis, the APACHE scale and the length of stay were greater in patients with the presence of hypercholesterolemia. The deceased patients exhibited the lowest cholesterol levels compared to the patients who were discharged alive.  Conclusions:  in severe postoperative patients, hypercholesterolemia implies a worse prognosis, it should be considered in the evolution of these patients. Incorporating it into the periodic follow-up would allow the early diagnosis of complications and reduce mortality.]]></p></abstract>
