Métodos:  Las investigaciones para evaluar la producción de semilla y establecimiento por vía gámica se realizaron en el Instituto de Ciencia Animal. El clima predominante en la zona es tropical húmedo (1200 mm anuales) y se encuentra ubicado en un suelo Ferralítico rojo éutrico. En todos los experimentos de campo, se realizó una preparación convencional del suelo consistente en aradura y cruce con pases de gradas media alternas Las investigaciones en producción de semilla se desarrollaron partiendo del conocimiento del desarrollo morfológico y fenológico de la flor como un indicador del proceso de formación y maduración fisiológica de las semillas (aquenios) El comportamiento de la germinación se evaluó en laboratorio y condiciones controladas en campo. El porcentaje de germinación se evaluó como lo indica la norma de la Asociación Internacional de Análisis de Semillas (ISTA).  Resultados:  Constituyen los primeros reportes en Cuba acerca de la caracterización de las inflorescencias, así como la evaluación de diferentes métodos para incrementar la germinación y su evaluación en diferentes tipos de sustratos y condiciones (laboratorio y vivero). Se definió la no existencia de dormancia logrando germinaciones de 84 % a los 10 d y se ratificó no extender las pruebas de germinación por más de 21 d. Las semillas almacenadas al ambiente pierden la germinación al año y en cámara fría, perduran hasta 2 años. La conservación puede realizarse en envases de frascos plásticos, bolsas de papel y de nailon. Por primera vez, se define el momento en que las inflorescencias poseen semillas formadas con poder germinativo. Un aporte novedoso fue la definición de un método científico práctico para determinar el mejor momento de cosecha con rendimientos de 24 kg ha-1 de semilla pura germinable y de 50 % a 90 % de germinación. El manejo agronómico integral permitió proponer prácticas que provocan la aparición de flujos uniformes de floración y la utilización de residuos vegetales y orgánicos en la protección de la semilla. Se demuestran las ventajas de la utilización de semilla gámica con relación a las plantaciones en bolsas y estacas de acuerdo a las poblaciones obtenidas en el establecimiento 10,55vs10,88 y 5,88 tallos m-2, respectivamente y los rendimientos 11,68vs9,48 y 9,92 t MS ha-1, respectivamente. Los costos de la siembra se pueden reducir hasta 3 veces con la semilla gámica. El costo del kg de semilla es 273,76 CUP.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  Gamic seed production and set up of Tithonia diversifolia is an unsolved problem for science and there are several unknowns to achieve a feasible technology that integrates these processes in a multidisciplinary way.  Methods:  Research to evaluate gamic seed production and establishment were carried out at the Institute of Animal Science, Mayabeque, Cuba. The predominant climate of the area is tropical humid (1200 mm per year) and it is located on a eutric red ferralitic soil. All the field experiments included conventional soil preparation, consisting of plowing and crossing with alternating middle harrows. Research on seed production was carried out based on knowledge of the morphological and phenological development of the flower as an indicator of the process of formation and physiological maturation of seeds (achenes). Germination performance was evaluated in laboratory and controlled conditions in the field. Germination percentage was evaluated as indicated by the ISTA standard.  Results:  These are the first reports in Cuba about the characterization of inflorescences, as well as the evaluation of different methods to increase germination and their implementation in different types of substrates and conditions (laboratory and nursery). The non-existence of dormancy was defined, achieving germinations of 84% at 10 d and it was ratified not to extend the germination tests for more than 21 d. Seeds stored in the environment lose germination after a year but it last up to 2 years in a cold room. Conservation can be done in plastic containers and paper and nylon bags. For the first time, the moment in which the inflorescences have seeds formed with germinating power is defined. A novel contribution was the definition of a practical scientific method to determine the best moment for harvesting with yields of 24 kg ha-1 of pure germinable seed and 50 to 90% of germination. The integral agronomic management allowed to propose practices that cause the appearance of uniform flows of flowering and the use of vegetable and organic residues in seed protection. The advantages of the use of gamic seed, in relation to the planting in bags and stakes, are demonstrated according to the populations (10.55 vs. 10.88 and 5.88 stems m-2, respectively and the yields 11.68 vs. 9.48 and 9.92 t DM ha-1, respectively) obtained, in the establishment.
