Objetivo: Analizar las ultimas clasificaciones de extensión anatómica para la localización pulmón, así como los cambios en la nueva clasificación.  Métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda en las bases de datos Scopus, Medline, Cochrane, Hinari y Redalyc con el uso de los descriptores: clasificación de las neoplasias, evolución, pronóstico. Las búsquedas fueron específicas en idioma español e inglés.  Desarrollo:  Las modificaciones de la clasificación de extensión anatómica en el cáncer pulmonar están relacionadas con el tamaño tumoral, estaciones ganglionares y metástasis. Los estudios moleculares, resultados de la biopsia líquida y de la enfermedad residual son factores pronósticos a tener presente en la supervivencia global del cáncer pulmonar.  Conclusiones: La clasificación de las neoplasias evoluciona con el conocimiento médico. La nueva clasificación comprende cambios en el descriptor ganglionar y metastásico. Los elementos moleculares y genéticos, no pueden medirse de manera homogénea y hace que se mantengan en revisión.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  The anatomic extent classification in lung cancer was created with the aim, among others, to provide prognostic and therapeutic guidance.  Objective:  To analyze the latest classifications of anatomic extension for lung localization, as well as the changes in the new classification.  Methods:  A search was performed in the databases Scopus, Medline, Cochrane, Hinari and Redalyc, using the descriptors clasificación de las neoplasias [classification of neoplasms], evolución [evolution], pronóstico [prognosis]. The searches were specific in Spanish and English.  Development:  The modifications of the anatomic extension classification in lung cancer are related to tumor size, lymph node stations and metastasis. Molecular studies, liquid biopsy results and residual disease are prognostic factors to keep in mind in the overall survival of lung cancer.  Conclusions:  The classification of neoplasms evolves with medical knowledge. The new classification includes changes in the nodal and metastatic descriptor. Molecular and genetic elements cannot be measured homogeneously and remain under review.]]></p></abstract>
