Se empleó un diseño completamente aleatorizado con tres tratamientos (Control n=10, Levamisol 10% n=18 y Closantil 5% n=20). Para la introducción de los animales a cada grupo se tuvo como premisa que el conteo fecal de huevo (CFH) de cada animal fuera superior a los 150 huevos por gramo de heces (HPG). Las muestras de heces se extrajeron directamente del recto de los animales y se introdujeron en bolsas de nailon previamente etiquetadas. Se realizó el conteo fecal de huevos a cada muestra individual a través de la técnica de McMaster modificada. Se realizó una mezcla de heces según los grupos formados y se hicieron cultivos fecales, para determinar los géneros presentes. Se calcularon los intervalos de confianza, así como la media geométrica de los datos. Se consideró un medicamento eficaz cuando la reducción del conteo fecal de huevos (RCFH) fuese superior a 95% y el intervalo de confianza superior a 90. Se obtuvo la reducción del conteo fecal de huevos en los dos grupos tratados, lo que indica que poseen una alta eficacia. En el grupo del Levamisol se observó que Haemonchus spp no fue totalmente removido (0.01% del total del CFH) pudiendo existir determinado nivel de tolerancia a este producto como resultado del uso continuado por muchos años.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[In order to evaluate the effectiveness of Closantil 5%® against gastrointestinal strongyles of sheep under production conditions, 60 Pelibuey sheeps with six months of age and body weight average of 24 kg infested by gastrointestinal strongyles were used. A design was used totally randomized with three treatments (Control n=10, Levamisol 10% n=18 and Closantil 5% n=20). For the introduction of the animals to each group, it was taken into account that the egg faecal count (EFC) of each animal was 150 eggs or more per gram of faeces (EPG). The samples of faeces were extracted directly from the rectum of the animals and they were introduced in bags of previously labeled nylon. The faecal count of eggs to each individual sample was determined according the McMaster´s technique modified. A mixture of faeces was carried out according to the groups formed, and faecal cultivations were made to determine the genera present. Confidence intervals as well as the geometric mean of the data were calculated. This was considered an effective medication when the reduction of the faecal count of eggs (RFCE) was higher than 95% and the confidence interval higher than 90 %. There was a reduction of the faecal count of eggs in the groups medicated indicating a high effectiveness. In the group using Levamisol, it was observed that Haemonchus spp was not completely removed (0.01% of the total of the EFC) being able to have certain tolerance level to this product as a result of being used continuously for many years.]]></p></abstract>
