Se realizó conteo e identificación de garrapatas adultas en animales de ambos sexos y de diferentes edades, para conocer la tasa de infestación y las especies presentes. La presencia de Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (Can) se evidenció en el 94,8% de los bucerros, en tanto en los animales adultos fue poco frecuente (27,7%). La tasa de infestación resultó significativa en los bucerros (19,7 garrapata/animal). Se observó el establecimiento del ectoparásito en las regiones ventral y auricular de los bucerros, en tanto en los adultos se observó en la región perineal.]]></p></abstract>

<body><![CDATA[<P   align="justify" ><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2" color="#000000">La      localizaci&oacute;n del ectopar&aacute;sito en los bucerros se observ&oacute;,      predominantemente, en las regiones ven-tral y auricular (<a href="/img/revistas/rsa/v32n2/f0312210.gif">Fig. 1</a>). En tanto,      en los adultos la regi&oacute;n de predilecci&oacute;n fue la perianal (<a href="/img/revistas/rsa/v32n2/f0412210.gif">Fig.      2</a>). </font></P >   </font></font></font></font><FONT size="+1"><FONT size="+1"><FONT size="+1"><FONT size="+1">     
<P   align="justify" ><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">El hecho de haber      encontrado, en muy pocos casos, ejemplares de la garrapata en b&uacute;falos      adultos y que los bucerros se infesten en la zonas donde la piel es m&aacute;s      fina, pudiera responder a la corta longitud del cap&iacute;tulo (y del hipostoma)      de R. microplus (<a href="/img/revistas/rsa/v32n2/f0512210.jpg">Fig.      3</a>).</font></P >       
<P   align="left" > </P >       <P   align="justify" ><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2" color="#000000">El      hipostoma, como &oacute;rgano encargado de la fijaci&oacute;n y de posibilitar      la alimentaci&oacute;n, se constituye en un elemento decisivo en el ectoparasitismo      de los ix&oacute;didos. A diferencia de otras garrapatas, como <I>Amblyomma      cajennese</I> cuyo hipostoma es considerablemente m&aacute;s largo (13), la      especie estudiada para poder implantarse, requiere superar algunas barreras      del hospedero como el tipo de pelo, toda vez que la espesura, la capilarizaci&oacute;n,      densidad de gl&aacute;ndulas sudor&iacute;paras y seb&aacute;ceas, le ofrecen      resistencia. Estas caracter&iacute;sticas se minimizan en los bucerros y se      acent&uacute;an en los b&uacute;falos adultos creando una barrera fisiol&oacute;gica    a la implantaci&oacute;n ectopar&aacute;sita de <I>R. microplus</I>. </font></P >   <FONT size="+1"><FONT size="+1"><FONT size="+1"><FONT size="+1"><FONT size="+1"><FONT size="+1">        <P   align="left" > </P >       <P   align="justify" ><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2" color="#000000">La      acci&oacute;n vectora de agentes pat&oacute;genos por ixodidos, reconocida      en bovinos, se observa tambi&eacute;n en b&uacute;falos (2, 3, 7, 8). En esa      especie, en otros pa&iacute;ses, se responsabiliza a <I>R. haemaphysaloides</I>      (6, 7), <I>R. appendiculatus</I> (14), entre otros, como vectores de diferentes      protozoos par&aacute;sitos (<I>Babesia orientales</I>, <I>Theileria parva</I>).      En Cuba, no se conoce la participaci&oacute;n de <I>R. microplus</I> en la      transmisi&oacute;n de hemopar&aacute;sitos en b&uacute;falos, por lo que la      presencia del ectopar&aacute;sito en esa especie constituye el punto de partida      para un estudio epizootiol&oacute;gico que dilucide la situaci&oacute;n.
