Se obtuvieron registros electrocardiográficos de 100 animales de la raza Holstein, clínicamente sanos y pertenecientes a diferentes grupos etarios de uno y de otro sexo: 10 terneras, 10 terneros, 20 novillas, 10 vacas lactantes, 25 sementales jóvenes ya incorporados al plan de extracción de semen y 25 sementales adultos, en 20 derivaciones, nueve bipolares y 11 monopolares. Las ondas P fueron codificadas de acuerdo a su morfología; se determinó la frecuencia con que aparecen sus diferentes formas y el tipo de polaridad en cada una de las derivaciones empleadas. Como resultado se obtuvo que en las derivaciones bipolares de hombro y en la de base-ápice, así como en las monopolares situadas hacia la base o hacia el ápice del corazón, se manifestó la menor variabilidad en la morfología y en la polaridad. Se concluye que al emplear en los cuadrúpedos las 12 derivaciones clásicas, establecidas en el hombre, la polaridad y la morfología obtenida para la onda P es muy variable. Sin embargo, se demostró que existen otros puntos de derivación en los que se manifiesta estabilidad en la polaridad de esta onda y un número más reducido de diferentes configuraciones.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to determine the polarity and morphology of the P wave of the electrocardiogram (ECG) of cattle in bipolar and monopolar derivations. Electrocardiographic records of 100 animals (Holstein breed), clinically healthy and belonging to different age groups and both sexes, were obtained. They were: 20 calves (10 females and 10 males), 20 heifers, 10 lactating cows, 25 young stallions already incorporated to the semen extraction plan, and 25 adult stallions, in 20 derivations (nine bipolar and 11 monopolar). P waves were coded according to their morphology. The frequency with which their different forms and the type of polarity appear in each of the derivations used, was determined. As a result, it was obtained that the lowest variability with respect to morphology and polarity was shown in the bipolar derivations of the shoulder, in the base-apex derivations, as well as in those monopolar derivations located towards the base or the apex of the heart. It is concluded that when the 12 classical derivations, established in humans, are used in quadrupeds, the polarity and morphology obtained for the P wave is very variable. However, it was shown that there are other points in which there is stability in the polarity of this wave and a smaller number of different configurations.]]></p></abstract>
